Halvorson calls for Rangel to step down
Rangel has come under fire following ethics violations.
7/30/2010 1:20:00 PM
By: Michelle Mantel
As powerful New York Democrat Charlie Rangel is in the spotlight for alleged violations of congressional ethics standards, Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson has called on him to resign from Congress. Halvorson says all the money Rangel donated to her campaign has been donated. Her campaign manager says Rangel donated $16,000. Meanwhile, Adam Kinzinger, her Republican opponent vying to take the eleventh district seat says there's still $40,000 that hasn't been returned. Halvorson says that money didn't come from him.
Rangel has been charged with 13 ethical violations. Sources say a plea deal has been reached, but Republicans on the panel say it might be too late, and the public trial will proceed.
